“If you were picking a front three on form" - James Pearce on Diogo Jota's position

Journalist James Pearce believes that Diogo Jota is currently not in Liverpool's best XI.

The forward is having a very good season. Jota has found the back of the net 21 times and registered five assists in 45 appearances for the Reds.

Despite that being the case, Pearce does not have the 25-year-old starting ahead of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Luis Diaz.

“If you were picking a front three on form - currently Diogo Jota would probably miss out – despite having 21 goals in all competitions," he told The Athletic, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.

"That’s how crazy the competition for places is.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Pearce is probably correct. There is a reason why Salah, Mane and Diaz started ahead of Jota against Manchester United at Anfield last night. The same happened against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium last weekend.

But, things can turn around pretty quickly. An injury to another forward could potentially open the door for Jota.

It is good to have competition for places.

You can never possess too many good footballers in your squad. The standards at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp are so high at the moment.

With that being the case, the Reds have won five major trophies in the past three years under the guidance of the German.

Hopefully Liverpool can continue to press for trophies for many more years to come. There is nothing better than seeing your side win silverware.

It is something that does not happen everyday of the week. Also, the future does look bright for the Reds.

Harvey Elliott (19) and Curtis Jones (21) are coming through the ranks, so we don't expect Liverpool to fade away anytime soon.
