"I'd be amazed" - Tony Cascarino's Liverpool prediction for the summer transfer window

Pundit Tony Cascarino believes that Liverpool will break their all-time transfer record this summer.

The Reds are coming off a decent season. Liverpool managed to win the League Cup and FA Cup.

However, they finished runners-up for both the Premier League title and Champions League.

Therefore, despite everything that Liverpool achieved last season, they still have to improve if they want to lift the two biggest trophies in club football.

With that being the case, Cascarino can see the club spending big this summer transfer window.

“I’d be amazed if Liverpool didn't break their transfer record this summer," he said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo and Anfield Watch's Twitter account.

Anfield Watch Verdict

We can see where Cascarino is coming from. Liverpool need to spend big on at least one player this summer.

The reality is, the Reds fell short last season. Improvement internally is great. But, sometimes you need a player or two to come in and lift the standards.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez. James Pearce of The Athletic, as cited by AW on Twitter, claims that the Reds will have to break their all-time transfer record if they wish to sign the Uruguay international.

Liverpool have never spent more than £76.19 million on one player (Virgil van Dijk from Southampton back in 2018). To be fair, the centre-back has proved to be worth every penny.

Van Dijk was named runner-up for the 2019 Ballon d'Or, which provides an insight into how well he has played for Liverpool at certain times.

Hopefully the club spend big this summer and bring in a player on the same level as the Dutchman.
