"I would like to mention" - Jordan Henderson praises Harvey Elliott

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has praised teammate Harvey Elliott for his performance against Bournemouth at Anfield last weekend.

The midfielder found the back of the net and registered a WhoScored player rating of 7.61 against the Cherries.

What made Elliott's performance even more admirable was the fact that his nan passed away before the game.

Henderson had the following to say about the 19-year-old post-match.

"I wouldn’t want to single out any of the performances from Saturday because, individually and collectively, all of the boys were right at it. It was a proper team performance from start to finish (9-0 victory)," he told the club's official website, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.

"But I would like to mention the circumstances that surrounded Harvey Elliott in the build-up to the game because I think the way he dealt with them was incredible, particularly given his age.

"As everyone will now be aware, Harvey’s nan passed away in the week of the game. He was obviously very close to her and, like anyone else who has been in a similar situation, the loss hit him hard.

"Yet he still had the maturity, the professionalism and the character to go out and perform like he did."

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Henderson. Elliott was absolutely sensational against Bournemouth.

It would not have been easy for the 19-year-old to take the pitch due to the fact that his nan passed away prior to the game.

But, Elliott showed his strength on the day. The youngster has had a solid start to his senior career at Anfield.

Elliott has scored two goals and registered two assists in 25 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

We wish the midfielder all the best for the remainder of the campaign.
