Journalist Ian Doyle has given his opinion on Naby Keita's future.
The midfielder, who is out of contract at the conclusion of the 2022-23 campaign, has been linked with a move away from Anfield due to his role at the club. He has been a squad player in recent times.
However, Doyle does not believe that Liverpool will sell Keita this late on in the transfer window.
The reporter further added that he would not be surprised if the Guinea international started against Manchester United at Old Trafford next Monday night.
As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told the Liverpool Echo the following: "I would be extremely surprised if Keita left this summer unless someone put in a rather large bid for him. If that was the case, Liverpool would have to sign someone.
"But it won't be easy as it's quite late in the window and the standard they need is so high, the selling club would have to quickly find a replacement or simply take the hit.
"I still think Keita has a part to play this season if he really wants to. He has actually only missed two or possibly three games during 2022 due to injury or illness. With five substitutions allowed, he'll get plenty of minutes.
"I wouldn't be surprised if he started against Manchester United. And I've previously written he can help unlock Darwin Nunez's pace and willingness to run in off the shoulder of defenders."
Anfield Watch Verdict
We completely agree with Doyle's take. It would not be an easy task for the club to go out and find a replacement for Keita if they were to sell him.
The summer transfer window closes soon, which certainly complicates things. We fully expect Keita to remain at Anfield for the entire 2022-23 campaign.
Hopefully the Guinea international puts his head down. The Reds need everyone to chip in if they are to win a trophy this season.
