"I think they want to find the right opportunity" - Fabrizio Romano on Reds signing a midfielder

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Liverpool's search for a midfielder.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that he would like to sign a central player this summer.

With that being the case, Romano has touched on Liverpool's possible targets.

"I think they want to find the right opportunity and jump into it as soon as possible as they always do. This is how they work at Liverpool," he told his YouTube channel, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.

"(Nicolò) Barella is impossible, Frenkie (de Jong) is impossible. It's going to be really difficult to sign this kind of player. Also (Moisés) Caicedo negotiations with Brighton is not easy.

"I think getting him in the final days of the window would be difficult. So if they can find the opportunity, they will jump to it but I am told not something super expensive - not something for €80 or €90m euros.

"At the moment it's still something they're exploring, for example with Konrad Laimer but Leipzig have no intention to let him go in the final days of the window. It's not going to be an easy one but I'm sure Liverpool are exploring some secret options."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool have signed Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay so far this summer.

The Reds have strengthened in attack and defence. But, there is no denying that Liverpool could do with a midfielder.

The Reds possess an ageing midfield. Both Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are in their 30s. With that being the case, Liverpool need to invest in a central player sooner rather than later.

Therefore, hopefully Klopp and his team can convince a midfielder to join the club before the transfer window closes.

Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world. So, it should be quite easy convincing a midfielder to join the club.

But, money could obviously be an issue.
