"I think it would have been incredible" - Pundit on Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool

Pundit Darren Bent has revealed that he would have loved to have seen Liverpool sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

The Reds were linked with a summer move for the out-of-contract Frenchman. However, Mbappe agreed new terms with the Ligue 1 side last week.

With that being the case, Bent implied that the prospect of the 23-year-old joining Liverpool excited him.

“You will never hear me criticise a player for getting as much (money) as he can, fair enough,” he told talkSPORT, as quoted by HITC.

“But I don’t like the whole power thing. I can’t get my head around that. Him making decisions on signings (part of Mbappe's new contract terms). Managers. I don’t think that’s good for the game.

“I would have also have loved to have seen him in the Premier League at Liverpool. Could you imagine (Erling) Haaland walks through the door at Manchester City?

“And then Mbappe walks through the door at Liverpool? I think it would have been incredible. He’s still young, so I still expect him to go to one of the top, top European leagues.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Bent. Mbappe would have been a terrific signing for Liverpool.

The forward has scored 171 goals and registered 87 assists in 217 appearances for PSG's first-team.

Mbappe also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.86 across the 2021-22 campaign.

The aforementioned figures highlight that the 23-year-old is a world-class player. But, Mbappe joining Liverpool just wasn't meant to be.

Despite that being the case, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has plenty of attackers at his disposal (Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz).

Therefore, Liverpool will be able to survive without Mbappe.
