"I have to challenge Robbo" - Kostas Tsimikas looks to the future

Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas has revealed what his goal is heading into the future.

The Reds signed the 25-year-old from Olympiacos for a transfer fee of €13 million back in the summer of 2020. Tsimikas was brought in as cover for first-choice left-back Andy Robertson.

The Greece international's start to life at Anfield was interrupted due to injuries and illness. Therefore, Tsimikas only made seven appearances for Liverpool last season.

However, the defender has performed well across the 2021-22 club campaign when he has been given an opportunity.

Tsimikas has averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.12 across 18 matches.

However, the left-back has implied that he would like to challenge Robertson on a more consistent basis.

Tsimikas further said that going up against the Scotland international only aids his game.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Tsimikas told the club's official website: "For me, I have to challenge Robbo and to try to catch the best gives me an extra boost to be the best. The most important thing is to work hard if you want to achieve your goals." He added: "I think I have done that all the time I was here and I will do it for the rest of my Liverpool career.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We absolutely love Tsimikas' mentality. The aforementioned comments highlight that the Greece international wants to overtake Robertson, and that is a good thing.

The Scotland international is a top player. The left-back is a defender by trade, but he adds so much going forward.

Robertson has scored six goals and registered 48 assists in 205 appearances for Liverpool.

Therefore, Tsimikas is going to have to continue improving if he is to ever overtake his teammate.

But, we love that the left-back has a goal. We wish Tsimikas all the best for the remainder of the season.
