"I fear Ajax will take something away from Anfield" - Chris Sutton's prediction

Pundit Chris Sutton has given his prediction for tonight's Champions League clash between Liverpool and Ajax at Anfield.

The Reds have had a slow start to the season. Liverpool have only accumulated nine points from a possible 18 to begin the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

The Reds also lost their opening Champions League group stage fixture of the season to Napoli last week.

With that being the case, Sutton is concerned about Liverpool ahead of tonight's match against Ajax.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told the Daily Mail: “I kept thinking because of what Liverpool have achieved in previous seasons that it was only a blip they were in. But with the way Napoli won 4-1 and made Liverpool's defence look like tourists on an Italian holiday, it has become more than that.

“Something's amiss there. From Virgil van Dijk at the back to Mohamed Salah up front, they've not been clicking. Liverpool's players lapped up the praise when they were on song. Now we need to see how they respond when they're hitting bum notes.

“Ajax will have a go. They're fearless and beat Rangers 4-0 last week. There's no time to waste for Liverpool to get their season back on track, but I fear Ajax will take something away from Anfield.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Sutton has every right to be concerned about Liverpool. The reality is, the Reds are in terrible form right now.

Ajax will certainly fancy their chances tonight. If Liverpool were at their best, we'd be backing them in to secure a comfortable victory.

The Reds are one of the best teams in the world when things are going well. But, as of right now, Liverpool are miles off the pace in comparison to previous seasons.
