“I don’t think Liverpool will be in the race" - Jamie Carragher on reported Reds target

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland in recent times.

It has been reported that the 21-year-old will be available for a transfer fee of £68 million (release clause) come the summer.

However,  former Red Jamie Carragher does not see Liverpool making a move for Haaland in the near future.

The Scouser believes that the Reds will not be able to afford the striker at the conclusion of the 2021-22 campaign.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Carragher told Impression Sessions the following: “I don’t think Liverpool will be in the race for Haaland, to be honest, I think he’ll be too expensive."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

We would love to see Haaland play for Liverpool, as he is a world-class talent. The striker has found the back of the net 70 times in 69 appearances for Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 8.48 in the early stages of the 2021-22 Bundesliga campaign.

But, Carragher could be correct. The Reds might not have the money to purchase Haaland.

It was reported back in April that the pandemic had impacted Liverpool financially. Only time will tell where Haaland's long-term future lies.
