Former Red Didi Hamann has taken aim at Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita.
The 48-year-old believes that the Guinea international was at fault for the two goals that Liverpool conceded against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Reds won the aforementioned Champions League group stage clash 3-2. Hamann further added that Keita is not good enough to represent Liverpool.
As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Hamann told talkSPORT the following: "I’ve got to say, I think Keita was at fault for both goals. I know he’s had some injuries, but I don’t think he’s good enough for Liverpool.
“If you score a goal like he did [against Atletico Madrid], you should be full of confidence, you have to do your defensive duties and I get the feeling he just wants to play with the ball and when Liverpool have got possession.
“You just can’t do that and he’s not good enough to do that. The way he got beaten for the first two goals was just too easy.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Back in the summer of 2018, Liverpool signed Keita from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of €60 million.
However, the Guinea international has struggled to stay on the park as a result of injuries during his time at Anfield.
Keita has only made 84 appearances for Liverpool in his three years at the club.
But, we don't agree with Hamann's comment regarding the 26-year-old's ability.
Footage highlights that Keita is good enough to represent Liverpool. We just haven't seen the midfielder play regularly for the Reds, which has arguably impacted his form.
Hopefully Keita can prove Hamann wrong before the season concludes.
