Pundit Jonathan Woodgate has praised Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman is having a very good season. Van Dijk has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.23 across all competitions.

After Liverpool's recent Premier League clash against Aston Villa, Woodgate waxed lyrical about the 30-year-old's form.

As quoted by HITC, he told the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast the following: "I just wonder where Liverpool would be without Virgil van Dijk, they wouldn’t be where they are now, he’s the ultimate centre-back, he has everything. He is a Rolls Royce, he is a pure Rolls Royce.

“He just never panics, he’s always in control of a situation, he never makes rash decisions, he’s constantly barking out orders but he’s never rushed or ever flustered and he’s so good to watch.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Van Dijk is Liverpool's most important player as far as we are concerned. The reality is, the Reds don't possess another defender as good as the Dutchman.

Back in 2019, Van Dijk was named the PFA Player's Player of the Year. The 30-year-old is just the fourth defender to win the award, which backs up our aforementioned argument.

So, when Van Dijk sustained a serious knee injury in the early parts of the 2020-21 club campaign, we were heartbroken.

He was unavailable for a total of 45 games as a result. Therefore, we weren't surprised to see the reigning champions at the time finish in third-place in the Premier League.

But, Van Dijk has not missed a beat this season, which is a key reason why the Reds are challenging for the title.

With two top-flight games to go, Manchester City possess a three-point lead over Liverpool. Pep Guardiola's side should claim the title.
