"He’ll be professional" - Pundit on what to expect from Mohamed Salah next season

Former Leeds United player Noel Whelan believes that Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah won't let his contract issues affect his performances next season.

With the Egyptian international still yet to sign a contract extension, a lot of fans are assuming that he is going to leave on a free transfer next summer.

If that is to happen, then there is a worry Salah won't perform to the best of his abilities knowing his future isn't at Anfield.

However, Whelan thinks that the 30-year-old isn't the type of player to down tools and not give 100%.

“I think he’ll just get on with the job if he is still there come the start of the season," he told Football Insider.

“I still think something will happen. Once you get down to a certain point in the contract and a move doesn’t come off then it just makes more sense to see the season out.

“It’s not like Liverpool are going to be struggling at the bottom of the table. They’ll be up there with the best of them.

“He’ll be professional about it there’s no doubt about that. I don’t think he’s one of those players that will down tools. I think he’ll work hard and he’ll enjoy the last season.

“I’m sure there’s going to be more success for Liverpool, given the signings they’ve made already this year."

Anfield Watch Verdict

If Salah leaves for free next summer, then it's going to be very hard to replace him. He is a world-class player after all.

In my opinion, if Salah is going to run his contract down, the club should move him on this summer to simply receive a transfer fee.

There is definitely a club out there that would sign the winger for a decent fee. The money from that sale could go a long way to finding his replacement.
