"He is so consistent" - Jurgen Klopp praises Joel Matip

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has recently praised Red Joel Matip.

The club signed the centre-back from Schalke on a free transfer back in the summer of 2016. Since then, Matip has gone on to make 155 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

The 30-year-old has helped the club win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title and League Cup.

Matip has been in some good form of late. He was named the Premier League Player of the Month for February.

With that being the case, Klopp waxed lyrical about Matip in his most recent press conference.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the German said: "Is Matip in his best form? No.

"It's the most 'obvious' form as he's scored and assisting and defending, but he is so consistent. He won Player of the Month, that's great. Long, long, long may it continue."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Matip's form across the 2021-22 Premier League campaign has been solid. The centre-back has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.32.  He has also scored one goal and registered two assists in 22 top-flight appearances.

Therefore, it was nice to see Matip get some recognition for his Premier League performances in February.

Overall, the 30-year-old has been a fine servant for the club. The only real negative aspect about Matip's time at Liverpool is his injury record. The defender has struggled to stay on the park during his time at Liverpool due to niggles and minor knocks.

But, he has always returned bigger and stronger.

Matip's contract does not expire until June 2024. The Anfield faithful will be able to sit back and watch the centre-back for at least a few more years.

We wish Matip all the best for the remainder of the season and beyond.
