"He impacted the game" - Rio Ferdinand impressed with Reds youngster against Fulham

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has praised Harvey Elliott for his performance against Fulham at Craven Cottage last weekend.

The Liverpool midfielder replaced Thiago Alcantara 51 minutes into the aforementioned Premier League fixture.

Elliott was looking to make things happen when he took to the pitch against Fulham. The 19-year-old registered a WhoScored player rating of 6.24 for his 39-minute performance against the Cottagers.

Ferdinand had the following to say about Elliott post-game.

As quoted by The Empire of the Kop, he told his FIVE YouTube channel the following: “He impacted the game when he came on.

“I thought his rotations with (Mohamed) Salah and Trent (Alexander-Arnold) on the right-hand side were something we’ll see a lot more of.

“Well, I hope to see much more of him this season. He gives them that creativity that’s different.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Elliott has had a reasonable start to his senior career. The midfielder has scored one goal and registered two assists in 22 appearances for the Liverpool's first-team.

Elliott did suffer a serious leg injury against Leeds United at Elland Road back in September 2021. As a result, the 19-year-old missed a total of 30 games for the club last campaign.

So, it's great to see that Elliott has recovered. Due to the amount of football Liverpool play per season, we expect to see a fair bit of the midfielder this campaign.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is not scared of promoting youth, which we absolutely love. Sometimes the transfer window is not the solution.

Football clubs have academies for a reason. It has been brilliant to see a local lad like Trent Alexander-Arnold transition into the first-team.

Young players like Elliott can look to the right-back for a bit of inspiration.
