Souness on Salah's status as all-time great: 'I don't put him above Giggs'
Graeme Souness has revealed where he believes Liverpool's Mohamed Salah ranks among the greatest Premier League players of all time.
Despite being Liverpool's top goalscorer this season, Salah has come in for significant criticism in recent weeks for his subpar performances, with the Egyptian benched for the 2-2 draw with West Ham United on Saturday.
The winger was then involved in a touchline spat with manager Jurgen Klopp shortly before coming on as a substitute, fuelling suggestions that he may leave Anfield this summer.
However, recent reports indicate that he will stay on Merseyside next season, news that will please Liverpool legend Souness, who believes the attacker ranks among the top ten Premier League players of all time.
GRAEME SOUNESS RANKS MO SALAH AMONG PREMIER LEAGUE STARS
Speaking with Talksport about Salah's legacy and future, Souness was asked where he ranked among the Premier League's best ever players, including former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs and ex-Tottenham star Gareth Bale.
"I don't put him above Giggs," said Souness. "[I put Salah] along with [Sergio] Aguero. Gareth Bale, when he was on it, was just off the charts.
"He's up there, you know, he'd be in the top ten of all the greats that have played in the Premier League."
Despite recent reports suggesting that Salah will stay at Liverpool next season, Souness believes that he may well move on this summer.
"I think there's a real chance [he leaves this summer]," said Souness. "I think there's every chance that he's done a deal with Liverpool in the summer of last year, with all the interest from Saudi Arabia, that he's given them [Liverpool] another year.
"A bit like [Cristiano] Ronaldo at Man Utd, he gave them another year and then went off to Real Madrid [in 2009]. I think there's every possibility that is the case."
Salah will be aiming to rediscover some form in the final three games of the season and he can then enjoy a long summer break, where rumours regarding his future are bound to swirl.
