Germany have reportedly readied a new plan to hire Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for the 2026 World Cup. The manager wants a break.

Sport Bild claim that Germany have a plan ready to hire Jurgen Klopp for the 2026 World Cup - if Julien Nagelsmann steps down. The current boss has been linked with jobs elsewhere, including at Liverpool.

And it's no secret that Germany want Klopp. Their problem is that if Nagelsmann does leave, they wouldn't actually be able to appoint the former Borussia Dortmund manager.

That's because Klopp cannot take another job for a year. That's part of his agreement with Liverpool, who are letting him out of his contract a year early at his request.

But there's a plan, it seems. Germany are happy to appoint an interim boss for a year before Klopp was ready to take over in preparation for the 2026 World Cup. That interim would be Sandro Wagner, who is currently one of Nagelsmann's assistants with the national team.

Germany have Jurgen Klopp plan

It's one of the strange quirks of the summer that so many clubs will be looking for managers. Liverpool are joined by Bayern Munich and Barcelona, certainly, while Chelsea and Manchester United could also reportedly be in the market. And that's before the Euro 2024 fallout that will likely see a few managers out of a job.

And yet, Klopp won't be on the table, despite being the most highly respected out-of-work manager. It means we could see the likes of Barcelona attempt a similar plan to Germany's here - they could opt to find an interim boss for a year before trying to convince Klopp.

The downside for Liverpool is that with Klopp not taking one of these other jobs, they're all competition for the Reds' targets. Xabi Alonso is one on that list, as is Ruben Amorim.
