Pundit Gary Neville has revealed that both Jurgen Klopp and Andy Robertson gave Virgil van Dijk a rollocking during the second-half of Liverpool's Premier League clash against Manchester United at Anfield earlier this week.
The Dutchman was loose in possession in the opening moments of the final 45 minutes. With that being the case, both Klopp and Robertson were on Van Dijk's case, according to Neville.
“You can have that togetherness and spirit, and they (Liverpool) have that in abundance," the former Manchester United full-back told the Gary Neville podcast (07:20).
"The demand of each other. Jurgen Klopp gave Van Dijk a rollicking after three minutes of the second-half and Van Dijk took it, Robertson, again, he absolutely turned on Van Dijk, that’s what you see in a winning team, a winning mentality."
Liverpool ended up defeating Manchester United 4-0.
Anfield Watch Verdict
Van Dijk is one of the best footballers in the world. The centre-back was named the runner-up for the 2019 Ballon d'Or, which backs up the aforementioned argument.
Therefore, it is great to hear that Van Dijk is willing to take on criticism. The 30-year-old clearly does not have a big ego.
On another note, Van Dijk was still decent against Manchester United. He registered a WhoScored player rating of 7.34 for his 90-minute performance against the Red Devils.
It has been good to see Van Dijk back in action this season. The defender missed the majority of the 2020-21 campaign as a result of a knee injury.
Van Dijk has been able to stay fit for the entire campaign thus far. Hopefully he can get through the remainder of the season unscathed.
We never like to see any Red sitting on the sidelines because of an injury.
