Former Red has heard 'rumours' that Liverpool forward will leave Anfield for free

Don Hutchison has said there is a 'rumour' that Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool for free next summer.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport, as cited by HITC, the former Red hinted that the winger could leave the club on a free transfer next year.

Salah's contract expires in June 2023.

“Behind the scenes, there is a rumour,” said Hutchison. “I am not sure it’s that wide off the mark.

“But I don’t think Liverpool wanted to lose Mohamed Salah because he is staying at the club next season.

“The rumour is that he might not then stay on at Liverpool, so they could then potentially lose him on a free transfer next summer.

“I think Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp couldn’t afford to lose Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane (also a free agent in 12 months time) on free-transfers next season.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

It makes sense. It would be stupid business to let Salah and Mane walk for free when we can get a decent transfer fee for them.

Mane looks set to join Bayern Munich this summer. The forward has reportedly reached an agreement with the German Champions to join them.

It has been reported that both Salah and Mane want £400k per week to stay at Liverpool, a wage which would destroy our current financial structure.

From a sensible financial stance, it makes sense to sell Salah and Mane. They're both in their 30s and giving them a four-year deal with £400k per week is a huge risk.

Bayern Munich have already had two bids rejected by Liverpool for Mane. But, reports earlier this week claimed that Julian Naglesmann's side are about to put in a third offer that would come much closer to Liverpool's valuation of the Senegalese forward.

Honestly, if Salah is going to walk for free next season I'd sell him this summer too. With the money we'd get for him, I think Jurgen Klopp and Julian Ward could find a suitable replacement.
