Former Liverpool player advises Reds to sign English midfield duo

Michael Thomas has said that Liverpool should focus on trying to sign a midfielder after they complete the signing of Darwin Nunez.

The former Liverpool player, who played 124 times for the Reds in midfield, thinks that the club should go after Jude Bellingham or Kalvin Phillips to beef up their midfield.

"He (Nunez) will be a great signing,"  Thomas told CaughtOffside.

"After that, I think a backup at right-back would be good to fight with Trent Alexander-Arnold. Joe Gomez played well there when called upon, but I prefer him in the centre.

"Kalvin Phillips could also be a good asset depending on the price. He’s surely not going to Manchester United so there might be an opportunity there.

"I also firmly believe Liverpool will be in for Jude Bellingham if the opportunity ever arises, though that will probably be one for next summer. I’d be very happy with Phillips or Bellingham for the midfield."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Thomas is right. We desperately need a right-sided midfielder who is an amazing all-rounder.

However, Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips wouldn't be on my list. Even though I think he's good, the fact that he is 26 years old and hasn't played at the top level yet is very worrying.

However, I do agree with Thomas on going in for Borussia Dortmund's Bellingham.

He would be the perfect player for us. Bellingham is 18 years old, can play multiple positions and he could be at the base of our midfield for over a decade.

The only issue is Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga club reportedly have no interest in selling the midfielder this summer.

However, I believe that they would have a price they'd be willing to sell Bellingham for this summer.

If we don't meet that price this transfer window, then it gives other clubs more time to sign him.

Hopefully Fenway Sports Group and Jurgen Klopp at least try to sign Bellingham this summer.
