Former legend wants Liverpool to sign Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland

Steve McManaman has said that if he could sign anyone for Liverpool it would be PSG's Kylian Mbappe or Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland.

Both Mbappe and Haaland have previously been linked with moves to Liverpool but going into the summer transfer window, it looks unlikely that the Reds will sign either of them.

Manchester City and Barcelona are currently the frontrunners for the Dortmund star. While Mbappe already has one foot in the Bernabeu.

That has not stopped former Liverpool player, Steve McManaman, saying that his dream Liverpool signing would be either of the young superstars.

Writing for horseracing.net, as cited by Sport Review, the former Red believes it's very unlikely that Liverpool would sign the pair due to their price-tags but admits they would be perfect signings for Jurgen Klopp's side.

“If I could sign anybody [for Liverpool FC] I would sign Mbappe. Even though he’s going to cost too much," said McManaman.

“I thought he was brilliant at Monaco and then he went to Paris and has been great. Cristiano [Ronaldo] and [Lionel] Messi are coming to the end and Mbappe has been the one who has been standing up this year. He’s the real superstar.

“Then it’d be somebody like Erling Haaland – a centre-forward who would score you a load of goals. But with this money and how much you would want, it just sets the dressing room on fire. For everyone else, you’d have to pay them.

“If you look at Liverpool’s setup at the minute, if they needed strengthening it would be with a different type of midfielder to what they have now. It would probably be one of the big hitters if they could afford it.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We're all with you Steve. These signings would be unbelievable and they'd elevate Liverpool to another level.

However, they are not just very unlikely additions, they're basically impossible additions.

Liverpool's transfer and wage structure would implode if the Reds signed either of these players. So as much as it's a nice thought, we think it's not going to happen anytime soon.
