Fernando Torres not finished with Liverpool & set for Jurgen Klopp link-up
Fernando Torres isn’t finished with Liverpool just yet. Here’s why he flew back to Merseyside on Thursday.
Fernando Torres made his return to Anfield last weekend as he starred with Liverpool Legends for the first time. The Spaniard donned the no.9 shirt and made that return a scoring one.
But it appears he's not quite done with Liverpool. Torres went back to Madrid to coach Atletico Madrid's Under 19 team this week, overseeing a 4-0 win over Numancia.
The former striker then flew to Liverpool once again on Thursday, where he'll remain over Easter weekend. Liverpool confirmed this on Friday with a set of images, showing their former no.9 with Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah.
As Marca reports, Torres is set to be at Liverpool's training sessions over the weekend.
He's going to oversee how Klopp and his staff do things - a part of his own learning process - as well as seeing the 'ins and outs' of Liverpool's academy system. They say Torres will be 'hand in hand' with Klopp here, though it's unclear just how involved he'll be.
This will all culminate with Torres watching Liverpool vs Brighton from the stands on Sunday.
Fernando Torres returns to Liverpool
Torres is certainly doing what he can to make it as a coach. He's been at Atletico Madrid as a youth coach for three years now, growing his experience.
Exactly when he wants to take the next step isn't clear. Of course, the Liverpool job comes far too soon for him, so he's not going to climb onto that shortlist.
But at a time when the Reds have focused on one of Torres's former teammates as their next boss, perhaps there's an opportunity down the line. Plenty of his ex-teammates have actually gone into management but none with anything like the success of Xabi Alonso.
Torres isn't rushing into a senior job, but don't be surprised to see him become the latest member of that 2008/09 team to try his hand at some point. And maybe become another Liverpool consider one day.
