Liverpool FC News: Fernando Torres makes feelings known about Steven Gerrard

Fernando Torres has made his feelings known about former Liverpool partner-in-crime Steven Gerrard after the pair reunited at Anfield for Saturday's LFC Legends game.

Showing off his incredible body transformation since retirement, a far more built Torres played under the Anfield lights for the first time in close to a decade this weekend.

Making himself a nuisance throughout the game for the Ajax Legends defenders, the Spaniard spent all afternoon in search of a goal - only to be thwarted and frustrated for much of the game.

However, as the Reds kicked into gear, turning around a two-goal deficit to lead 3-2, Torres finally got on the scoresheet - turning home Mark Gonzalez's delivery to cap off a wonderful afternoon on Merseyside.

A glowing endorsement

It was a nostalgia trip for the fans in attendance, watching the formidable duo of Torres and Gerrard roll back the years.

And after the game, El Niño took to X to give his former skipper a more than glowing endorsement.

Echoing a catchphrase made famous by Bret 'The Hitman' Hart, Torres simply referred to Gerrard as: "The best there is, the best there was… and the best there ever will be."

Liverpool's former number nine also reflected on his performance, with it being his first footballing outing since his retirement in 2019.

And in a wholesome moment alongside Sven-Goran Eriksson - who was able to fulfil a lifelong wish of managing in the Liverpool dugout - the Swede could hardly believe Torres had been out of the game for so long.

"It's the first time I've played since I finished football five years ago, so I'm not fit, trust me," Torres said. "I have pain everywhere!

"I'll do my best to train every day and come again next season - and do a little bit better."

Eriksson took issue with any hint that Torres didn't play up to standard, saying: "No, you were very good today!"
