Fans react as Saudi transfer deadline passes and Mohamed Salah stays
Se queda.
The Saudi transfer window officially closed and 22:00 BST on 7 September and, oh look, Mohamed Salah is still a Liverpool player.
For all the noise about imminent medicals and impossible-to-turn-down money, Al Ittihad and the Saudi Pro League's interest in Liverpool's number 11 came to a big load of nothing.
The only bid Liverpool received was swiftly rejected, while the threat of a world-record offer never arrived, as the Saudis concluded that the deal was impossible.
Instead, the only Deadline Day deal Al Ittihad completed was for Real Betis defender Luiz Felipe.
The saga is likely to flare back up again in future windows but, for now at least, Liverpool's record Premier League goalscorer is going nowhere: Salah stays.
Here's how social media reacted to the passing of the transfer deadline.
Even fellow Pro League club Al Ettifaq (famously managed by Steven Gerrard and captained by Jordan Henderson) appeared to have a joke at Al Ittihad's expense with their slightly bizarre announcement video for the signing of Demarai Gray.
Meanwhile, at this time of celebration, spare a thought for Richard Keys' mentions today.
The disgraced former Sky Sports anchor and writer of one of the finest blogs in all of football was at it again last week when he โ in his typically humble style โ confidently asserted that Salah had played his last game for Liverpool.
Well done, Rich. You've smashed that one.
Salah, who spent the Saudi Deadline Day kicking back at home with a bit of Vikings, is set to join up with Egypt for their friendly against Tunisia on Tuesday and will return to action for Liverpool when club football resumes on Saturday, 16 September with a trip to Wolves.
