Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool explored the possibility of signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham this summer.

The reporter said that after reported Reds target Aurelien Tchouameni joined Real Madrid from Monaco, Liverpool turned their attention to Bellingham.

However, Romano further added that the club did not act on their interest because of Borussia Dortmund's stance regarding the 19-year-old's short-term future (still contracted).

Jurgen Klopp in the last 24 hours said that he was a fantastic player and everything but he is not on the market," he told the Here We Go Podcast.

"The reality is that Liverpool, immediately after missing out on Aurelien Tchouameni, they were exploring this discussion for Jude Bellingham, but it was not even a negotiation because he’s not on the market.

"No bid, no discussion, no negotiation. Bellingham will not leave this summer, but next summer I believe he will be on this podcast every episode."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Going by the aforementioned news, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would like to add a midfielder to his squad.

But, we don't just want the club to sign any midfielder. If the Reds have to wait until next summer to sign Bellingham, then so be it.

The reality is, the England international is a world-class talent. Bellingham has found the back of the net 10 times and registered 18 assists in 90 appearances for Borussia Dortmund's first-team.

The 19-year-old has already made 15 appearances for England's senior team. The aforementioned figures highlight that Bellingham is beyond his years as a footballer.

Therefore, we would love to see the club acquire the midfielder in the near future. Bellingham is contracted until the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.

He possesses a current market value of £72 million. Only time will tell if Liverpool are to cross paths with Bellingham.
