Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has provided an update on his fitness.

The Brazil international picked up a muscle injury against Aston Villa at Villa Park last week.

Fabinho has not played for Liverpool since. However, the 28-year-old has confirmed that he will be fit to face Real Madrid in the Champions League final, which is taking place in Paris on the 28th of May.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told the Liverpool Echo the following: “Yes, I will be there - to play. We are working and recovering to be ready for that final.

"I am very calm and very confident that I will be there, so we have to keep working and resting to be at the best physical level for May 28."

Anfield Watch Verdict

We are delighted to hear that Fabinho will be fit for the Champions League final. The reality is, the Brazilian is the only natural holding midfielder on the club's books.

Fabinho is having a very good season. He's been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.96 across the 2021-22 campaign (47 appearances).

Fabinho has also scored eight goals and registered one assist from the middle of the park. The aforementioned statistics highlight that the 28-year-old is a key cog in Jurgen Klopp's side.

Former Red Michael Owen believes Liverpool are more stable when Fabinho is playing.

"It is so comforting watching him,' Owen told BT Sport back in 2021, as quoted by The Daily Mail. "When he is in the middle you feel safe.

"It is so comforting having him back in his right position. It is just how you want a sitting midfielder, he covers the back two."

Therefore, it is pivotal that Fabinho is fit for the final.
