Journalist Fabrizio Romano has given Anfield Watch an update on Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

Liverpool have been linked with Mbappe in recent times.

According to Romano, Mbappe is currently negotiating with PSG. Romano said that PSG will do everything to keep Mbappe at the club.

Romano told Anfield Watch: "I want to be clear about Kylian Mbappe. He is still negotiating with PSG."

"The president, the owner of PSG, they will do everything to keep Kylian Mbappe," Romano added.

"Not just because he is a star, but also because of the future project of the club."

Romano said that it would be very difficult for Liverpool to purchase Mbappe this summer as a result of the financial impact that the pandemic has had on the club.

"In my opinion, and what I've been told, about the situation [financial impact on clubs] of the pandemic.

"If we were back in a normal situation, for sure, we can start talking about Liverpool and Real Madrid making moves for Kylian Mbappe if he won't extend his contract with PSG.

"[Liverpool would be] spending, in my opinion, more than €150 million [to purchase Mbappe from PSG] and [also] paying an enormous salary to Mbappe. The salary would be I would think around €20 million after taxes per season for Kylian Mbappe.

"It would be like signing a new player every season. It would be really difficult in this kind of situation with the pandemic. It would be impossible for every club."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Mbappe would be a superb signing for Liverpool. The reality is, Mbappe is a world-class footballer.

The 22-year-old has scored 106 goals and registered 59 assists in 147 appearances for PSG.

Mbappe is also averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.69 this season, which highlights that he has not been affected from a performance point of view by all the talk about his future.

Mbappe is also very young, which means that if Liverpool did sign him, they could potentially be bringing in a striker that has the ability to play for the Reds for 10 years.

However, Romano talks about the pandemic impacting Liverpool financially, and it's true going by reports.

With that being the case, we don't see how Liverpool could afford a contracted player (Mbappe) that has a current market value of €180 million.
