Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the futures of Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho.

Van Dijk's current contract expires in the summer of 2023. Fabinho's current contract also expires at the end of June in 2023.

According to Romano, the club is starting to talk with Van Dijk and Fabinho about signing new deals with the club.

Romano told Anfield Watch: "It is so difficult to extend contracts in this moment in football because of the pandemic and everything.

"Liverpool are planning and I think in the coming months they will start with Van Dijk and then it will be Fabinho.

"They are working on it. Won't be so fast [because of the financial impact of the pandemic] but they are starting to talk with Van Dijk and Fabinho."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

There is no need for anyone to panic in regards to getting Van Dijk and Fabinho signed up to new deals.

The reality is, their contracts don't expire until the summer of 2023.

Van Dijk and Fabinho have won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League title with the Reds.

The aforementioned achievements highlight that they have contributed to the club's recent success.

With that being the case, they definitely deserve new deals, so it is great to hear that the club want to offer them new contracts.

Now, it is up to the club to make sure that both Van Dijk and Fabinho sign.
