Dominik Szoboszlai says Erling Haaland gave him 'crazy' warning

Dominik Szoboszlai has shared what Erling Haaland told him about his transfer to Liverpool. The pair were teammates at RB Salzburg.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Erling Haaland were shining stars at RB Salzburg, once upon a time. The pair each had enormous futures - now they're living them.

Haaland made the move first, of course. He went to Borussia Dortmund, then Manchester City after tearing up the Bundesliga. Szoboszlai then followed a similar path. His Bundesliga team was RB Leipzig - mysteriously a common pathway from Salzburg - before joining Liverpool this summer.

And the Hungarian made sure to warn Haaland of his impending arrival in the Northwest. However, the City forward had a warning of his own in return.

“When I came to sign, it was not official yet, I sent him a picture with a Liverpool shirt,” Szoboszlai told the BBC. “He was like: ‘Oh, what’s happening?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, we’re going to see each other’.

”And he said: ‘Congratulations, and the Premier League is crazy’.”

Szoboszlai is certainly witnessing the latter there. Liverpool have had a particularly interesting season, with some wild games - and enormously controversial decisions against them.

But now comes the biggest game, and potentially the craziest. Szoboszlai will most likely start for Liverpool at Man City this weekend and come up against his former teammate in Haaland.

The two teams hold the top two positions in the Premier League right now, with only a single point separating them. A win would be a big statement for either side, though the Reds haven't won in the league at the Eithad since 2015.

Change that and Liverpool will be feeling incredibly confident of a title challenge for the rest of the season. Szoboszlai has a chance to truly announce himself in the English top flight, then.

Not sure Haaland will still be congratulating him if he does.
