The return of Diogo Jota is exactly the Christmas present Liverpool needed.
The Portuguese slotter made his comeback from injury during the Reds' 2-0 win over Burnley on Boxing Day, confirming the three points at Turf Moor with a typically assured finish late on.
Speaking after the game, Jurgen Klopp admitted he gambled on rushing the forward back to action against advice from his medical staff.
The manager told reporters: "We sneaked him in somehow on the squad list because he trained only twice and the medical department wanted to give him extra training and I said, ‘he can have that in Burnley. He had that tonight and now he can train tomorrow properly and then he will be ready for Newcastle, which is really helpful."
Jota's late strike was a significant one personally, as it marked his 50th goal for Liverpool in all competitions.
The victory at Burnley sent the Reds to the top of the Premier League table, while Jota's unwavering ability to find the net is a huge boost ahead of the second half of the season.
The Portuguese continues to be something of a lucky charm Liverpool. As noted by Squawka, Jota has – somewhat amazingly – never lost a Premier League game in which he has scored.

It's an impressive run that now stretches to 42 games, going all the way back to his days as a Wolves player.
In total, Jota has 52 Premier League goals – 36 of which have come for Liverpool.
The former Porto star was forced to miss eight games this season after suffering a hamstring injury against Manchester City back in November, but is still the Reds' second top scorer in 2023/24 behind Mohamed Salah, with nine goals.
With the Egyptian set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations next month, Jota's goalscoring return is a much-needed boost for Klopp.
