"Didn’t come to the party at all" - Jermaine Jenas on two Reds against Spurs

Pundit Jermaine Jenas has criticised Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for their output against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield last weekend.

Both forwards struggled to have an impact against Spurs. The Premier League fixture ended in a 1-1 draw.

With that being the case, Jenas implied that the performance levels of Salah and Mane were a key reason why the Reds did not secure the three points against Tottenham.

As quoted by LiverpoolWorld, Jenas said the following on Match of the Day on BBC One: “Let’s not forget, Liverpool have had a very intense few weeks and months, going behind against Villarreal early on (in the Champions League last week) and having to come back.

“They just lacked that bit of quality, I thought, in the final third. Usually those crosses you see being picked out, they just looked disconnected. Star players like Salah and Mane didn’t come to the party at all.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

There is no denying that Salah and Mane were a little bit off the pace against Tottenham. They did not score or create a goal.

But, both players have been superb across the 2021-22 campaign for Liverpool. Salah has scored 30 goals and registered 15 assists in 46 appearances this season.

Mane on the other hand has found the back of the net 20 times and secured four assists in 46 appearances.

Therefore, we are reluctant to criticise the aforementioned players. Salah and Mane have given a lot to Liverpool this season and over the years.

Without the contribution of both wingers, the Reds would not have won the Champions League, Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title and League Cup in the past three years.

We will miss Salah and Mane when they eventually depart Anfield. They have been superb servants for Liverpool.
