"Diaz is very similar with his traits" - Danny Murphy on Mane's potential replacement

Former Liverpool player Danny Murphy believes that Reds winger Luis Diaz is good enough to replace Sadio Mane.

It has been reported that the Senegal international is likely to join Bayern Munich this summer.

With that being the case, there is plenty of talk about who will succeed Mane.

However, Murphy is confident that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp already possesses a player capable of replacing the 30-year-old.

“Luis Diaz is tenacious, he’s a goal-scorer, he plays with the same energy, the tenacity, all those things that Sadio Mane gives, Diaz is very similar with his traits," he told talkSPORT, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.

“When you think of the way Luis Diaz has come in, playing off that left-hand side generally – because Mane has been through the middle a lot, especially towards the end of the season.

“So he looks like a replacement, if you like, for Mane.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool signed Diaz from Porto for a transfer fee of £42.30 million back in January. Since then, the winger has scored six goals and registered five assists in 26 appearances for the club's first-team.

Diaz also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.44 across the second-half of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign.

The aforementioned figures further highlight that he is capable of replacing Mane.

On another note, we can't believe just how quickly Diaz has settled into life at Anfield. The Colombia international does not speak English.

But, that has not impacted his performance levels thus far. The exciting thing about Diaz is that he is only 25 years of age.

Therefore, it would be fair to assume that he is far from the finished article. We look forward to watching Diaz represent Liverpool in the years to come.
