“City have it all to lose" - Jamie Carragher on the 2021-22 title race

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has explained why the Reds hold a slight advantage in the 2021-22 Premier League title race.

Manchester City possess a one-point lead over the Reds heading into the final day (Sunday). Despite that being the case, Carragher believes that the Citizens are somewhat disadvantaged.

“Liverpool have been the chasers throughout, never in a position to win this season’s title,” he wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

“Having just won two finals and in preparations for a third, anything more on Sunday is a spectacular bonus.

“A cup parade is confirmed no matter what and there will be a party atmosphere at Anfield as the fans look towards Paris.

“City have it all to lose. This is their last chance to win a trophy this season.

“They go into the weekend with confidence and fear, the expectation being they will – and should – become champions on Sunday evening.

“Liverpool’s remaining weapon is hope. The fact there is still a fight means anything is possible.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We can see where Carragher is coming from. Liverpool have a lot to gain and Manchester City have a lot to lose.

However, we don't believe that the Citizens would be in that frame of mind. The reality is, Manchester City have won three of the past four Premier League titles.

In other words, Pep Guardiola's team knows how to handle pressurised situations in domestic football. So, we can't see Manchester City blowing their advantage.

But, in saying that, anything can happen in football. As Carragher said, Liverpool have hope. All the final day fixtures will kick-off at 4:00pm BST.

Liverpool will face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield. Manchester City will face Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium. Bet with 1win Sign-up Offer.
