On-loan Liverpool youngster Calvin Ramsay has had a tough time of it since his arrival in the summer of 2022.

Having being tracked by multiple Premier League clubs, a lot of intrigue surrounded the Scottish defender's arrival from Aberdeen.

However, things haven't yet gone to plan.

His debut season was completely written off by injury, having knee surgery in February - and the hangover from that setback has carried over into this campaign.

After joining Preston North End in the summer, he only managed to make his Lilywhites debut at the end of last month after a lengthy lay-off with injury.

And now, just as he was getting back into the swing of things, COVID-19 has reared its ugly head - and the defender is now to set to spend another short spell on the sidelines as he recuperates from illness.

There were fears that Ramsay had suffered yet another injury setback when he was left out of the matchday squad for Preston's trip to Norwich City this weekend.

However, North End boss Ryan Lowe allayed any fears after the game at Carrow Road, revealing that Ramsay’s absence was because of a positive COVID test.

"He's got COVID," said Lowe. "I don't know what the crack is. There's a bit of it flying around isn't there?

“He wasn't feeling well and we had to make sure we just kept him away. There was no point him travelling with us. So yeah, he's not well."

After making it through 87 minutes in his debut against QPR at the beginning of the month, Ramsay will be cursing the timing of this untimely illness.

However, with the frantic festive period looming, there's no doubt that opportunities will be available for Ramsay to prove his worth and get his season back on track.
