"Best January signing ever" - Pundit makes bold Luis Diaz claim

Former Leeds United player Paddy Kenny has made a very bold claim about Liverpool's newest signing, Luis Diaz.

Speaking to Football Insider, Kenny said that Diaz might be the 'best January signing ever'.

“What an impact he has made, he must be the best January signing ever. He’s only been there a few weeks and he is already one of the key players there.

“You bring him on to change the game in a Champions League semi-final and he actually does it. He could have had a couple more goals as well. You have to hand it to the Liverpool recruitment team."

Kenny also said that he wouldn't be surprised if Diaz started the Champions League final vs Real Madrid off the back of these impressive performances recently.

“They have absolutely nailed it again. I think Diaz will play a big role in the last few weeks of the season. He just looks too good every time he plays. You would expect him to start in that Champions League final.

“He’s just brilliant, it wouldn’t be a shock if he is the one to score the vital goal in one of the finals Liverpool have.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool have made some unbelievable signings in January over the years. Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge, Phillipe Coutinho and Virgil van Dijk, just to name a few.

So far, it's looking like Diaz is going to be right up there with those players in terms of impact. I honestly believe if we didn't sign Diaz in January that we wouldn't be challenging for the quadruple.

His presence in the squad seems to have given the fans, players and staff a massive boost. We've heard players talk about it before how a new face in the dressing room helps them out a lot, especially if that player is coming in to steal your spot.

We have seen Sadio Mane improve massively since the Colombian joined, as he was playing in the same position as Mane before the Senegal international's position change.

As Kenny said though, it would be a massive surprise if Diaz did not start the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
