Benfica reportedly name asking price for Liverpool target Darwin Nunez

Benfica are open to selling forward Darwin Nunez for a transfer fee of around £84 million, according to Diario AS, as cited by LFC Transfer Room on Twitter.

Liverpool have been linked with a summer move for the 22-year-old.

Nunez's contract does not expire until June 2025. With that being the case, a free transfer is off the table for the time being.

Nunez is a talented player. The forward has scored 47 goals and registered 16 assists in 83 appearances for Benfica.

In terms of this season, Nunez has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.45 across all competitions.

Former Arsenal footballer Kevin Campbell had plenty of good things to say about the 22-year-old's recent form a few days ago.

“I had a good look at him over the two legs Benfica played against Liverpool (Champions League quarter-finals) and I was impressed," he told Football Insider.

“He is lively and seems a very good player. He has size, pace and occupies centre-halves. Defenders would have their hands full if he comes to the Premier League."

Therefore, we would not be against Liverpool making a move for Nunez. He would certainly add some quality to Jurgen Klopp's squad.

Because of the Uruguay international's age, it would be fair to assume that he is far from the finished article.

However, we don't believe that Nunez is worth the aforementioned asking price. Transfermarkt value him at £36 million.

Also, it is important to note that Liverpool are not short of options in attack (Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota).

As things stand, we don't believe that the Reds needs to spend big money on a forward this summer.

But, only time will tell if Liverpool are genuinely interested in Nunez.
