Arne Slot: Liverpool chose NOT to meet Feyenoord's demand

Liverpool chose not to meet Feyenoord’s demand for Arne Slot. The Dutchman is widely believed to be the Reds’ pick to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have chosen Arne Slot to be their next manager. That's according to just about every outlet going, anyway.

The Athletic have even gone as far as saying that Liverpool offered €9m to Feyenoord in order to sign him. That was rejected, however.

The Dutch champions are in a strong position here, with Slot having signed a new contract last summer. There had been a release clause in his deal, prompting interest from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.

But Slot rejected Spurs and signed a new contract, removing the clause. This new deal lasts until 2026 and Feyenoord have no obligation to let him out of it.

They know that Liverpool's interest will turn his head, though, and they've got a price in mind for that very reason. Dutch outlet 1908.nl claims it's €15m, meaning the Reds were some way below it.

It also means that Liverpool essentially chose not to offer it. If Feyenoord have a figure in mind, they'll have told the buying club. The Reds quite clearly want to negotiate here - and that doesn't necessarily mean things are going to go their way.

Liverpool bid for Arne Slot

In fact, are Liverpool willing to pay €15m for Slot? If they are, the negotiation might just be out of principle. If they're not, what does that say about their manager hunt?

That's perhaps the biggest remaining question. Liverpool have quite publicly chosen their manager here, with every even semi-reliable journalist reporting the same thing.

Feyenoord know that the Reds face some embarrassment, then, if they fail to get their man. That leaves the Dutch side with a strong position - strong enough that they can likely hold onto their €15m valuation here.
