Andy Robertson has been pictured with his arm in a sling, as Liverpool fans anxiously await news of the injury he suffered on international duty.

The 29-year-old was taken off during Scotland's Euro 2024 qualifying defeat to Spain after a collision with Unai Simon, last Thursday.

The Spain goalkeeper landed awkwardly on Robertson's arm, with the Liverpool left back in clear discomfort as he exited the field with a suspected dislocated shoulder.

Robertson left the national team camp for a scan back at his club, while Scotland boss Steve Clarke admitted he was unsure if his captain would be available for next month's internationals.

In the build-up to Scotland's 4-1 friendly defeat to France on Tuesday, Clarke said: "As always with injured players, we send them back to their club; Andy's gone back to Liverpool.

"Liverpool will deal with his injury. Obviously, it's a shoulder issue and Liverpool will deal with it. If he's fit for next month, it's great. If he's not fit for next month then hopefully he'll be fit as soon as possible for his club."

On Wednesday, the Mirror shared photographs of Robertson coming out of a Greggs in Wilmslow, Cheshire, with his arm in a sling, adding to the growing concerns over the severity of his injury.

The left back's recovery timeline now largely depends on whether the issue will require surgery. If it does, Robertson would likely be unavailable for over two months – much of the rest of the calendar year – in a potentially huge blow to Liverpool.

With fans hoping for more clarity when Jurgen Klopp speaks in his Friday press conference, what is clear is that Robertson will not play in this weekend's Merseyside derby.

The Liverpool manager now faces a choice between Kostas Tsimikas, a more traditional left back, or using Joe Gomez (or even another centre back) in a hybrid role that might help accommodate the new system better.

In addition to Robertson's injury, young left back Luke Chambers also picked up a knock on duty with England Under-20s and is likely to be out for a couple of weeks, ruling him out of contention for at least a spot on the bench.
