"Almost unthinkable" - Pundit on what Darwin Nunez will do to Liverpool's attack

Former England international goalkeeper Paul Robinson has said that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was the driving force behind Liverpool signing Darwin Nunez

With Liverpool signing Benfica's Nunez this summer for a reported fee of €100 million, he will have to make a quick impact on Merseyside.

However, Robinson thinks that the Uruguayan striker will improve the Reds' attacking power.

“This is one that Jurgen Klopp has pushed for," he told Football Insider.

“He seems to have more control over transfers right now. Nunez is clearly a player that he likes.

“It is obvious that the door is now open for (Sadio) Mane to move on. I’m not sure they would have allowed Mane to leave until a replacement was signed.

“Nunez is clearly a player Klopp admires. It is exciting times for Liverpool. The front three was seen as untouchable for so long but now they have (Diogo) Jota, (Luis) Diaz, and Nunez. That is really exciting.

“I think he will be a brilliant signing for them. He will make them stronger and better which is almost unthinkable when you look at the squad they have already got.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Nunez will bring something to our frontline that we have lacked since Klopp joined Liverpool back in 2015. An actual striker.

For years we've played with a false nine or a winger up front and now we will have someone up top whose only job is to be in and around the box.

As Robinson said, Klopp clearly pushed for this transfer. He knew we needed a different dimension in our team and Nunez will provide that.

With him being 6'2, it also means we have more of an aerial threat for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson to aim at.

Hopefully the Uruguayan can start well and show the world why Klopp brought him to Anfield.
