Alisson Becker feels Liverpool's game against Tottenham Hotspur could've been 'totally different' if the Reds weren't on the wrong end of a few unfair refereeing decisions.

Liverpool fell to a 2-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Joel Matip's late own goal, but refereeing decisions involving red cards to Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota and a disallowed goal from Luis Diaz came under massive scrutiny after the game.

Speaking to ESPN, Alisson suggested that Liverpool were 'outraged' by the decisions that went against them, admitting that he felt like a 'prisoner' for his inability to criticize the referee. He said (quotes via Liverpool Echo): "My position is clear, everyone saw it. I don't like talking about arbitration, nor can we talk about arbitration. Sometimes it feels like we are prisoners. When he opens his mouth, he is punished from all sides.

"We are human beings and we have to be outraged by this kind of thing. Yes, it's the fan's feeling. Our feeling too. A mistake that cost us the game. Today could not have been totally different. Now we have to deal with this.

"We, internally, will deal with this. I hope these things stop happening internally too. I've always said that VAR is good, precisely for these unfair situations. Incredibly, these things continue to happen with something so simple, with something that is so objective. And the technology is there. Why don't you use the technology that FIFA used in the World Cup?"

Jones' sending-off upon consultation with the VAR for a challenge on Yves Bissouma and Diaz's disallowed goal - which has since been acknowledged as the wrong decision by PGMOL - were the two decisions that went against Liverpool in the first half. When asked about the incidents, Alisson urged pundits and journalists to make their voices heard as he bemoaned the refereeing standards in the country.

He said: ''We saw it, yes, at halftime, but not with the intention of seeing the failure of the refereeing, but with the attitude of seeing what we did right in the game, which was a great move of ours, worked towards what we could play it in the second half and we have no line at all.

"We came back to play the second half and, unfortunately, there was another expulsion, which is also worth mentioning. This game has a lot of topics regarding refereeing, I think it's up to you to talk a lot. You have to talk, because this kind of thing is very frustrating. Very frustrating."
