Liverpool injuries: Mac Allister, Elliott, Jones, Chiesa
Here we provide you with the latest updates on all Liverpool's first-team injuries, suspensions and availability issues.
The international break has seen a number of issues and developments crop up for Arne Slot as his side welcome a Nottingham Forest side to Anfield this weekend who are yet to lose in the Premier League this season.
Alexis Mac Allister
Reason:
Adductor/Muscle overload
After leaving Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Chile early, there was fear that Mac Allister had suffered an adductor injury. Manager Lionel Scaloni had previously confirmed the midfielder had missed training sessions because he ‘was overloaded’.
However, Mac Allister returned to the Argentinian team on Tuesday night. He played out the last 25 minutes of a 2-1 loss to Colombia (of which fellow Red Luis Diaz played the entire 90).
With fears of a stint on the sidelines, Reds should be heartened by Mac Allister’s ability to return to the pitch this week. If he is to have any time out it seemingly won’t be for long.

Harvey Elliott
Reason:
Foot fracture
After reporting discomfort in his foot and being left out of the England Under-21’s lineups this international break, it is now being reported that Harvey Elliott is facing an extended time on the sidelines with a foot fracture.
Elliott has previously been a mainstay in the Young Lions side, starting the last seven consecutive fixtures. This contrasts with his start to the season at Anfield, with the youngster only seeing seven minutes of action so far.
With the standard foot fracture recovery time being 4-6 weeks, Elliot is reportedly targeting a return after the next international break.
Potential return date:20th October 2024 (Liverpool vs Chelsea)
Curtis Jones
Reason:
Muscle problem
Good news will be a welcome sight for Arne Slot, as midfielder Curtis Jones has returned to full training this week.
The homegrown player has missed the previous two fixtures against Brentford and Manchester United, but this international break arrived at the right time to ease him back into full action.
With the Reds facing seven games in the span of the next three weeks, rotation will be crucial to the success of Slot’s men. If fully fit, Jones will undoubtedly play a crucial role in that.
Potential return date: 14th September 2024 (Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest)Federico Chiesa
Reason:
Lacking match fitness
After missing out on selection for the Italy squad this international break, Liverpool’s newest addition has yet to take to the turf at Anfield.
The former Juventus star was reportedly following a ‘bespoke training plan’ as he stayed on Merseyside, linking up with the Under 21’s staff to work himself back to match fitness.
Italy manager Luciano Spalletti discussed Chiesa’s role in his future plans for the Azzurri, which will be welcome news to the player and fans alike. With Liverpool not lacking for attacking options and a slate of difficult matches upcoming both in the league and in Europe, Arne Slot will be forgiven for being cautious with the Italian. If he does make his debut this weekend it is unlikely to be in the starting XI.
