Alexis Mac Allister admits he has a 'desire' to play for a club other than Liverpool one day. The midfielder moved to Anfield in the summer.

Alexis Mac Allister only moved to Anfield in 2023 but it's clear he has ideas of playing elsewhere before he hangs his boots up. Mac Allister, who joined from Brighton, would like to return to Boca Juniors - if it's possible.

The midfielder started his career at Argentinos Juniors before signing for Brighton in January 2019. Part of that deal saw him return to Argentinos on loan, and then he completed a loan to Boca the following summer.

But it didn't last long. What was supposed to be a season-long loan turned into a half-season as Brighton recalled Mac Allister in January 2020. They felt he could play a role in their first-team and the Argentine featured in nine Premier League games over the remainder of the 2019/20 season.

It means Mac Allister only actually played 20 times for Boca, the club he supported as a boy. His father played there, too, between 1992 and 1996, as well as Alexis's brother Kevin. In fact, the two brothers were both on loan at Boca at the same time.

Mac Allister would like more time at Boca

There's a sense of unfinished business for Alexis, then, and it seems he does have a desire to return to Boca before his career is over.

“I don’t like to promise that I will return because the reality is that there is still a long way to go, but anything can happen,” Mac Allister told TyC Sports in Argentina. “Obviously, the desire is there, especially because my time in Boca was very short and I would have liked to be there more, but time will tell if I have that possibility and they give it to me.”

No one should expect that to happen anytime soon, then, but the 25-year-old does have his eyes on a post-Liverpool career.

The World Cup winner's Anfield contract runs until 2028.
