Steven Gerrard has had his say on Jurgen Klopp's new contract with Liverpool.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Gerrard said that Klopp's new contract is 'totally deserved'.

“All the Liverpool fans all over the world are absolutely delighted with the news," said Gerrard. "Congratulations to Jurgen and his staff. It will be Liverpool's most important signing for many years to come.

"That is how highly we all think of him. He certainly deserves it. The fans have been craving that signing for some time. He has built a world-class team.

"I think it's totally deserved and it's fantastic news for Liverpool Football Club."

Anfield Watch Verdict

A lot of people thought that Gerrard would be Klopp's successor, however, with the German extending his contract until 2026, with the option to extend further, Stevie is going to have to wait a lot longer than he probably would've hoped.

However, this is probably going to be a good thing. It means that Gerrard will be able to hone in on his managerial skillset and then when he is ready, Klopp will definitely be willing to pass the baton on to the Scouser.

Saying that, if Klopp was to extend his contract forever at Anfield then you would not find many Liverpool fans who would be opposed to this.

Speaking about Gerrard becoming Liverpool's manager one day, Klopp has previously said that he thinks that Stevie will become the manager at some point in the future.

"Yes, absolutely. But when is the right moment to take the job? I think it will definitely happen and it will be good for everybody," said Klopp.

Whatever happens in the future happens. At the moment we're enjoying watching the best Liverpool side ever and Klopp is at the helm.

Hopefully, there are many more seasons to come of this success under Jurgen.
