Liverpool transfer rumours: Reds now prioritising Marc Guehi deal

Liverpool are now prioritising a deal for Marc Guehi. The Reds want a centre-back and the Crystal Palace man tops the list.

This comes from the Mirror. They claim Liverpool want a centre-back above all in 2024 and the position now 'tops their shopping list'.

It's easy to see why. Liverpool's two preferred options at the back are Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip, both of whom are over 30. Matip is now out for the season with a serious knee injury - and is out of contract in the summer.

And so signing a centre-back makes a lot of sense. The big question facing Liverpool is whether they want to spend big on a potential star or merely find cover behind Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté and Joe Gomez.

Then there's Jarell Quansah - he's come on leaps and bounds this season. Should he be ahead of any new arrival?

The Mirror believe Liverpool have settled on a primary target, though, in Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi. There's no chance of signing him this month, of course, but the Reds will supposedly make a move later this year.

That wouldn't be a cheap move, by any means. Guehi has become one of the standout defenders in the Premier League at 23 - he's going to cost a fortune.

Especially as talk around Michael Olise continues to gather pace. Palace may not want to sell both of them in the summer, or at least not without securing truly enormous fees for their stars.

Liverpool must decide just how much having Guehi is worth to them, then. It makes little sense to pay the expected fee if he's anything short of a starting player for them. It also doesn't make much senes if they believe Quansah can become that starting player down the line.

A big decision later this year, then.
