"They can't be as strong" - Former Man City man on Liverpool
Former Manchester City player Joleon Lescott believes that Liverpool are not as strong as they used to be.
The Reds have signed Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay this summer.
However, Liverpool did sell Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich for a transfer fee of £28.80 million back in June.
With that being the case, Lescott is not sold on Jurgen Klopp's team ahead of the new campaign.
“I think it’s going to be slightly more difficult for Liverpool. I know they’ve signed Nunez, but without Mane, they can’t be as strong,” he told PA news agency, as quoted by the Express and Star.
“The same could be said about Manchester City losing Raheem (Sterling to Chelsea), but in regards to Liverpool losing Mane I think that’s a huge loss.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Mane was a huge player for Liverpool last season. The winger scored 23 goals and registered five assists in 51 appearances.
Mane also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.29 across 34 Premier League fixtures last campaign.
The aforementioned figures highlight that the Senegal international will be missed on Merseyside. We wish Mane all the very best ahead of his new journey.
He was a fine servant for the Reds between 2016-22.
But, we don't entirely agree with Lescott's take. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is blessed with attacking options.
Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Nunez should be able to carry the club from an attacking point of view.
The above names are all more than capable of finding the back of the net.
