There have been rumblings that Newcastle would have to sell the Sweden international should they fail to land Champions League football at the end of the season. However the scale of the operation required to sign Isak is enormous.

The Magpies are reported to be seeking £150 million in order to part with their star striker and the wages on offer will have to be excessive too.

Isak is under contract at St. James’ Park until 2028 having signed from Real Sociedad in 2022 for over £60m.

But there are signs that Eddie Howe’s side are preparing the way for Isak to leave the club with a succession plan beginning to take shape.

Isak out, Ekitike in?

Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike is enjoying a fantastic season in front of goal and has even been named as a potential Liverpool target.

However, there is no doubt the Reds’ decision-makers would be welcome to the idea of the Frenchman joining Newcastle if it meant grabbing hold of Isak next summer.
