Liverpool appear keen to strike the biggest transfer of 2025. The Reds want to make a statement.

Liverpool want to make a statement this summer - and it's one that will shock the Premier League. Despite running away with the title under Arne Slot, the Reds aren't actually happy with what they have.

Anfield Watch understands an overhaul of the attack is wanted. That's just one area you'll see incoming, too - there are plans at centre-back and at left-back, per the Athletic.

It is a bit surprising, given how well this squad is performing. Though, there are a couple of important reminders.

Firstly, Liverpool aren't actually in control of whether they keep this squad together. Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract this summer. All three can depart if they wish.

We certainly hope Liverpool tempt them into re-signing with solid contract offers but we're still waiting.

The other important bit to remember is that this isn't actually Arne Slot's squad. Liverpool only signed Federico Chiesa as a summer addition, despite losing Joel Matip and Thiago.

Slot will want a squad built for him, as all top managers do. The fact he'll almost certainly have a Premier League winner's medal before getting it is just magic, really.

Liverpool plan something big

It appears that Liverpool aren't just looking to sign some good players. They could actually make the biggest transfer of the summer for once.

Now, this has never happened and we'd recommend everyone approaches this with some caution. But solid sources are saying Liverpool are keen on major transfers.

The Daily Mail, for instance, claim Liverpool want Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. The Reds have been linked with Wirtz for years now but he's expected to actually move this summer.

Manchester City and Real Madrid both want him. The latter has the problem of Jude Bellingham playing a similar role, however, and City aren't looking like the sure-thing they have previously.

Liverpool have a real chance of getting Wirtz. Any deal would be a record for the Reds - and arguably the biggest of the summer.

One deal that could top that, though, is for Alexander Isak. Newcastle United may sell the Swede and The Times talks of a 'growing interest' from Liverpool.

He could be the elite centre-forward the Reds want, especially if both Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota leave at the end of the campaign. Again, we're talking record money and potentially the biggest transfer of the summer.

Will Liverpool sign both? Almost certainly not. Could they sign one? They apparently believe they can and a major overhaul, as we expect, would give them the money, the space, and the justification to do it.

Yes, we've heard it all before - but this summer is truly lining up to be something special.
