Liverpool are one of the best clubs in Europe when it comes to producing first-team ready academy products.

A number of the Reds’ current first-team players are graduates of the club’s academy including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Caoimhin Kelleher and Conor Bradley.

As well as the players who have successfully transitioned to the senior squad, there are a number of prospects on the periphery of Arne Slot’s first team.

Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni are two of the most exciting talents emerging from the academy, but there is another wonderkid currently out on loan that looks destined for success.

Jayden Danns is arguably Liverpool’s most exciting prospect, but the 19-year-old’s season may have come to an early end.

Danns’ faces massive injury blow

Despite being one of the highest rated prospects at Anfield, Danns’ development has been stunted this season, and the striker has only managed seven matches in all competitions for Liverpool’s youth teams and Sunderland – where he is currently on loan.

The youngster has appeared twice for Slot’s first team, despite his limited availability, and even found the net in the FA Cup against Accrington Stanley.

Since joining Sunderland in January Danns has failed to even make a match-day squad, and injuries have hampered his opportunity.

A new report from The Northern Echo has revealed that Danns is yet to train with the Sunderland squad, and that things aren’t looking good for the youngster.

When asked if it was time to admit defeat on the Danns situation Regis Le Bris, Sunderland’s boss, refused to give up hope.

“We are not at this point right now, but the season is running so it will be difficult,” Le Bris said. “We don't know exactly.”

Danns’ persistent injury problems

Since first breaking into the Reds’ senior squad under Jurgen Klopp, Danns has consistently been plagued with injury. A loan move with Plymouth Argyle was called off in the summer after Danns sustained a bad injury, and his move to Sunderland looks to have been a failure too.

Although the striker clearly possesses incredible talent, and has a very high ceiling, injury problems could prove to stunt his development into a top player.

Those behind the scenes at Liverpool will hope that Danns can overcome his susceptibility to injury and that he is able to become the elite player he has shown he can become.

Another loan move could be on the cards for Danns next season, but regular football – even at youth level – will be crucial for his development next season.
