Why David Hancko is '100%' ready to join Liverpool
A report by Voetbal International has recently claimed that Slot would like David Hancko to join Liverpool. The Slovakian international is capable of playing as a left-back and as a centre-back as well.
He has guided his team into the round of 16 in the Champions League and has of course played under Slot at Feyenoord for two seasons.
Anfield Watch spoke to Hancko's former coach at MSK Zilina, Adrian Gula, in the summer and he was adamant his former protege was ready to make the next step.
“Yes, I’m sure," Gula told Anfield Watch exclusively.
"Never you can say 100% but I am 100% sure or 99%. He’s ready physically, mentally, tactically. At Liverpool, the coach [Arne Slot] knows him. It can be a fantastic advantage and he can immediately help the team. Of course it’s top league, it’s the best league in the world but I think and I hope and I wish he’s ready.”
Gula also confirmed that Hancko grew up supporting Liverpool and views Martin Skrtel as an idol, having grown up in the same region of Slovakia.
"Yes, yes, because of Martin Skrtel was there. They come from the same village around me. It’s just 10 kilometres around us and we could have two guys who play in Liverpool. It’s amazing. It’s unbelievable. Two villages from the same area, it’s not a city. Skrtel was there [Liverpool] fantastic player and Hancko I hope and I wish all the best for him.”
Gula also revealed Hancko was initially a left-winger when he arrived at Zilina, but he coached him to hone his defensive side of the game, allowing him to flourish as a full-back.
This gives Hancko a unique advantage when it comes to his offensive qualities as a defender, but to Gula his biggest strength is his character and mentality.
"His best trait is his character," Gula said. "For me right now, what I saw and what I discussed with him, if Arne Slot wants something special, tactic, offensive tactic, he can do it. He is fantastic. He can read the game, you know, predict the situation so tactically he is excellent too."
