“I think Liverpool need" - Didi Hamann names player Liverpool should sign

Former Liverpool player Didi Hamann believes that the club should look at signing Newcastle United attacking midfielder Joelinton.

The 49-year-old said that the Reds lack a midfielder with "presence". With that being the case, Hamann would like to see Jurgen Klopp make a move for Joelinton.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told GGRecon the following: “I think Liverpool need a midfielder with presence. You look at Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Thiago, they’re all similar, tidy players, I think they could do with someone like Joelinton from Newcastle.

“I think they need someone in midfield because they don’t get any goals from midfield. Last year I think they got 12 or 13 goals from midfield and I think Fabinho got about seven of them. That means the rest of the midfield scored about five goals between them.

“They haven’t got goals from midfield and I think that’s their Achilles heel. Regardless of the injuries, I think if you look at Liverpool they have a fantastic goalkeeper, defence and up top they’re great as well.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

It is important to note that Liverpool have not genuinely been linked with a move for Joelinton.

But, we do agree with Hamann that the attacking midfielder would not be a bad signing for the Reds.

Joelinton has scored 14 goals and registered nine assists in 122 appearances for Newcastle United's first-team.

The 26-year-old averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.82 across the 2021-22 campaign. The aforementioned figures highlight that Joelinton is quite a capable player.

The attacking midfielder is contracted until the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign. Joelinton possesses a current market value of £18 million.

But, only time will tell if Liverpool are to make a move for the Brazilian in the near future.
